Tarot readers now work in four formats: in person, live video, written email readings and live chat. None is better across the board. Each suits a different person and a different question. Here is how to pick.

In person

You sit across from the reader, you may shuffle and cut the cards yourself, and you see every card as it lands. The atmosphere helps many people open up. Downsides: limited to readers near you, travel time, and usually the highest price. Best for people who want a ritual feel and a longer session.

Live video

The reader shuffles and shows you the spread on camera. You talk in real time and can ask follow-up questions. This is now the most common format and it gives you access to readers worldwide. Prices sit slightly below in person. Best for most first-time clients.

Email readings

You send your question, the reader pulls cards and writes a detailed interpretation, often with photos of the spread. You get a document you can reread. There is no live conversation, so you cannot clarify in the moment. Prices vary widely, from 20 USD for a three-card pull to 100 USD or more for a full written reading. Best for reflective people and for questions you want to sit with.

Live chat

Text-based, in real time, usually billed per minute. Fast and private. The per-minute model can get expensive if the reader types slowly or pads the session. Best for one quick, specific question. Check the rate and set a time limit before you start.

Does distance change the accuracy?

Readers who work online say the cards respond to intention, not location, and most clients report no difference once they settle in. What matters more is the reader’s skill at asking the right question, reading the spread and talking with you honestly.

What to check whatever the format

Years of experience and the decks they use. A clear price and session length. Reviews that mention specific insights, not only a nice person. A policy that rules out medical, legal and financial predictions. A simple rescheduling rule. Readers with all five are a good bet in any format.
