How to Read a Practitioner Profile: 8 Things to Check Before You Book

Reviews, training, prices, photos and five other signals that separate a safe booking from a gamble. A two-minute checklist for any directory profile.

You have found three practitioners who all look good. Same service, similar prices, nice photos. How do you choose? Profiles tell you more than you think if you know where to look. Run this two-minute checklist before you book anyone.

1. A real name and a real photo

A first name and a clear photo of the person. Not a logo, not a stock image of candles. You are about to spend an hour with this person, sometimes with their hands on you. You should know what they look like.

2. Specific training, not vague words

“Certified Reiki Master, Usui lineage, trained 2019” beats “experienced energy worker”. For tarot and astrology, look for years of practice and the methods or systems they use. For coaching, look for a named training programme.

3. A description of what actually happens

Good profiles walk you through a session: how long, what you do, what they do, how it ends. If you finish reading and still cannot picture the session, the practitioner has not thought about your nerves. Move on.

4. Prices, or at least a range

“Contact me for prices” is a small red flag. It means an extra email, and it often means a sales conversation. Practitioners who list prices respect your time.

5. Reviews that mention results

“Lovely person, beautiful space” is nice. “I slept through the night for the first time in months” is useful. Look for reviews that describe a change. Three or more is a good sign. None is not a dealbreaker for a newer practitioner, but it means you are the test case.

6. Online or in person, stated clearly

If you want online, check that they say so and describe how it works. If you want in person, check the address or at least the neighbourhood and whether they travel to you.

7. Honest limits

The best profiles say what they do not do. “Not a replacement for medical or psychological care.” “I do not predict death, pregnancy or legal outcomes.” That sentence is a mark of someone safe.

8. Responsiveness

Send one short question before booking. How fast and how warmly they reply tells you how the whole experience will feel.
