Reiki is unregulated in most countries. Anyone can call themselves a healer, print business cards and take bookings. That does not mean good practitioners are rare. It means the work of checking falls on you. This guide shows you what to look for before you book a session.
Check training and lineage
Ask which Reiki level the practitioner holds. Level 1 is self-practice. Level 2 qualifies someone to work on clients. A Reiki Master has completed the full training path and can teach. Serious practitioners name their teacher and lineage without hesitation. If the answer is vague, keep looking.
Look for a real practice, not just a profile
A trustworthy healer describes how they work: session length, what happens during treatment, what they charge, and what Reiki can and cannot do. Be careful with anyone who promises to cure illness, tells you to stop medical treatment, or pressures you into a package before a first session. Reiki supports wellbeing. It does not replace your doctor.
Read reviews from real clients
Reviews tell you how a practitioner treats people: punctuality, boundaries, atmosphere, follow-up. One or two detailed reviews say more than fifty star ratings. On our practitioner directory every listing shows verified client reviews, so you can compare healers before you contact anyone.
Ask these five questions
- What Reiki level do you hold, and who trained you?
- How many years have you practiced on clients?
- What does a typical session with you look like?
- Do you offer in-person, distance, or both?
- What do you charge, and is the first consultation free?
A confident practitioner answers all five in two minutes. Hesitation on basic questions is your clearest warning sign.
In person or online?
Reiki is practiced hands-on and at a distance. Distance sessions work well for many clients and open up practitioners worldwide, not just those in your city. If touch matters to you, filter for local healers. If schedule and selection matter more, include online practitioners in your search.
Trust your response, not just the checklist
After a first session you should feel relaxed, respected and under no pressure to rebook. If something felt off, that is information. The right healer for your friend may not be the right healer for you.
