Two practitioners offer the same service at the same price. One has nine reviews. The other has none. You already know who gets the booking. Reviews are the single biggest trust signal on a directory profile, and most practitioners never ask for them. Here is a system that feels natural.
Why clients do not leave reviews on their own
They are happy, they mean to, and then life happens. Nobody is holding back out of disappointment. They simply need a nudge and a link. That is the whole fix.
When to ask
Ask at the moment the client feels the benefit, which is usually right after the session or the next day. For Reiki, sound healing and energy work, send the request the following morning when they have slept on it. For readings and coaching, ask at the end of the session while the insight is fresh.
What to say
Keep it short and personal. Something like: “I loved working with you today. If you have two minutes, a short review on my directory profile helps other people find me. Here is the link. Even two sentences about how you felt afterwards is perfect.” Send it as a text or email, not a mass newsletter.
Make it easy
Send the direct link to your profile, not the homepage. Tell them it takes two minutes. Give them a prompt: how did you feel before, how did you feel after, would you recommend it. People freeze at a blank box. A prompt solves that.
Where reviews should live
Your directory profile first, because that is where new clients compare you with others. Then Google Business Profile if you work in person. Then screenshots on Instagram and your website. One review can work in all three places.
How many do you need
Three reviews move you from unknown to credible. Ten make you the obvious choice in most categories. Aim for one new review every two weeks and you will have ten in five months.
Handling a critical review
Reply once, calmly, within a day. Thank them, acknowledge the point, say what you changed. Never argue in public. One measured reply to a critical review builds more trust than ten glowing ones, because it shows how you handle problems.
